SHANGHAI — Chinese robotics leader Unitree Robotics made a historic public market debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market, with its share price surging up to 629% during its opening trading session.

The Hangzhou-based company raised approximately 6.1 billion yuan ($904 million) in the initial public offering (IPO), making it the first pure-play humanoid robot manufacturer to go public in mainland China.

Surge Driven by Investor Enthusiasm for Physical AI

Unitree’s stock opened at 150.80 yuan per share and peaked near 1,100 yuan, elevating the company’s market capitalization to over $50 billion during early trading.

The massive opening rally highlights intense investor demand for “embodied artificial intelligence”—AI systems integrated into physical hardware and advanced robotics—even amidst ongoing geopolitical and regulatory trade friction.

  • Record Market Valuation: Retail investor demand for Unitree’s offering exceeded available shares by over 5,500 times, signaling massive domestic market interest.

  • Capital Allocation for R&D: The company plans to allocate approximately 4.2 billion yuan ($622 million) of the proceeds toward embodied AI model development, next-generation bipedal robotics research, and scaling manufacturing capacity.

  • Strategic Backers: Major strategic investors included AI research firm DeepSeek and investment arms of state-owned enterprises, with DeepSeek securing a 2.31% stake to co-develop physical AI models.

Unitree Robotics Shanghai STAR Market IPO Profile:

• Lead Strategic Investors: DeepSeek, Tencent Affiliates, State-Owned Enterprises

U.S. Regulatory Bans and Global Market Expansion Strategy

Despite its triumphant domestic market launch, Unitree acknowledged expanding headwinds in key international markets, particularly following recent regulatory actions in the United States.

Lowe’s Tops Q2 Earnings Expectations Despite Sluggish DIY Spending Pressure

U.S. federal regulators—including national security directives enforced by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)—have restricted new foreign-made humanoid and quadrupedal robot imports, citing data security and supply chain risks.

Key Strategic Realignment Factors

  1. Navigating U.S. Market Restrictions: While the U.S. previously generated roughly 13% of Unitree’s total revenue, new import restrictions on foreign-made humanoids require shifting focus toward domestic and regional industrial markets.

  2. Dominance in Global Shipments: Chinese robotics manufacturers accounted for over 97% of global humanoid robot shipments in early 2026, with Unitree and rival Agibot representing three-quarters of world sales.

  3. Paving the Way for Industry Peers: Unitree’s successful listing establishes a valuation benchmark for upcoming IPOs by other domestic humanoid developers, including Agibot and Deep Robotics.

Future Industry Outlook

As global shipments of advanced humanoid robots accelerate toward an estimated 60,000 units this year, public capital markets are providing the funding necessary for robotics firms to transition from demonstration prototypes to large-scale industrial deployment.
